The hidden fragrance of 1+5=6

What if numbers and vowels were like fragrance notes ? Could their  combination  form an accord of coherence in a fragmented world and perhaps release healing as an  invisible sillage?

The word resplendent

Dear friends, I hope you are having a resplendent day!

The meaning of the world resplendent  lies in its root (re (intensity) + splendere ( to shine)). Let’s examine what in experience this could mean apart from its literal meaning. For the time being, I would like to  invite you to notice that  it has 3 e vowels.

The word serendipity

Talking about beautiful words a relevant one is the word serendipity. If we were to play we could see that there is an inherent paradox, it involves the words serene and pity Its sound is rather formal – but the word serene involves softness. It is Muse-Like? A lullaby?  

Let’s play with its vowels now:  It has 2 e’s and 2 i’s.  The first thing that comes to mind is the word symmetry .

Since it a word of paradox, we are going to play and examine the English vowels in relation to the French ones. In French, e is sometimes pronounced sharp rising like in café, open like in père. Some times on the other hand, it is silent the so called e muet like in rose, porte. So e plays between presence absence. Because of this, French writers saw it as hinge between opposites.

Talking about letter i, Its form is minimal just a line and a dot, Let’s call it an axis mundi.

When it comes to the meaning of the word, it implies stumbling upon something beautiful when you weren’t looking for it. For example picture this:

• You are in the Trinity College Library searching for a particular book, you  pull the wrong one off the shelf and inside it you find a passage that gives you exactly the perspective you needed that day.

What we call serendipity in words  also appears in inventions – chance accidents that instead of failing , reveal a hidden gift.

In 1968 a scientist at 3M was trying to invent a super strong glue. Instead accidentally he made one that was weak and reusable. It would stick but peel off without leaving marks. At first glance, it seemed useless. Years later, another colleague realized  it was perfect for  little bookmarks that could be stuck and removed. That failed glue became the world changing Post -it -note.

Regarding its appeal, throughout the centuries  a lot of thinkers , poets, even scientists  suggested it wasn’t just luck , but a principle woven into the fabric of the universe.

Setbacks are blessings in disguise through pearls, babies and butterflies

Having said that, I would like you to reflect upon the following question:

***Isn’t it the case that several setbacks you have experienced were blessings in disguise that you only realised in retrospect ?

To exemplify this:

If you take

a pearl ;

a baby ;

a butterfly

you will observe a pattern:

A pearl is formed when an oyster is wounded by a grain of sand. Through layers of nacre, the irritation becomes something precious . If you add the numbers of the letters in the English alphabet of the vowels of the word pearl you get  5 and 1, if you add them you get number 6.

We can now approach another archetype that of the butterfly. It is formed when a catterpillar dissolves in the cocoon, struggling to emerge transformed into beauty. If we pause and add the number of vowels we get 6 again.

This means that the two words are inherently connected, they are the alter ego of each other. It is very interesting that in the word pattern 1+5 equals 6 again. Any by the way so does the word heart:)

In Carl Jung’s world there is  a meta pattern  which is not other  than Jung’s Self It is funny that the word meta has 1+5= 6 .

But it is not a coincidence..

Going back to our examples :

After the struggle, the pearl opens up ( the same way that a baby burst out of the womb of its mother through the struggle of labour crying at first only to realise in retrospect the beauty of the new world ) and the butterfly flies in the air.

Babies, butterflies, and pearls are associated with innocence, they belong to the same archetypal family. For the moment we will leave this open as a question mark. To pause and reflect however, at an intellectual level we see the literal butterfly, pearl, baby as distinct entities, but at an emotional level we feel their essence and intuitively discern that it has the same base. We also notice that in all cases we experience descend and ascend which is guaranteed.

Descend as inseparable prerequisite for ascend

What is most important? The descend is indispensable for the blooming of the ascend, and yet most of the times the ascend is not immediate it takes time like the opening of the petals of the most gorgeous flower

Another pattern is that the process for all three takes place inside, in the dark, something that resonates with what I have touched upon in the beginning, you realise blessings in retrospect, at first the process  hidden.

At the explicate level of reality[KC1] , where polarity reigns ascend and descent are distinct and since the progression is linear when you fall you are not happy At an implicate level of reality however, the 2 poles of the polarity are enfolded :

They are the same thing.

it is super interesting after all that if you take the words a-scend and de-scend the last part is the same while the beginnings differ( 1 vs 5 , the addition of which makes 6!)

The hidden thread: Grace

May you see the pearl in your pain,

the butterfly in your waiting,

the newborn world in your tears~~

The ( hidden) thread of

G.r.ac.e. (1+5=6)

in them all…..

Grace is no other than the axis mundi of the word serendipity ( letter i) uniting opposites (letter e ) setbacks are less of disruption than blessings in disguise

Turning back to the word resplendent, the visible radiance is just the surface. What gives it this essence, is depth ( vowel e ) which you  acquire if you creatively transfigure loss  though and into Light. And guess what ? The vowels  of this word add up to 6 again.

It turns out life has a sense of humour !
